A Note From The Directors
“You always hurt the ones you love.” This line truly encapsulates the relationship of Ernest and Ernestine. Everyone knows what it feels like to love someone, but more importantly, everyone knows what it feels like to be angry at the one you love. Ernest and Ernestine are newlyweds, who are moving in together for the first time. They live in a small basement apartment with a temperamental furnace. They quickly find out that there are many quirks and tendencies that they didn’t know the other had. The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine demonstrates that no relationship is ever perfect and that maintaining happiness often takes work and a lot of patience. Ernest and Ernestine are looking for outlets for their anger. It is because they can’t express their anger to one another, that they repress it and then share it with you, the audience; but anger can only be repressed for so long. Whether it is fighting over what to have for dinner, or where to put the tissue box, The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine is a light hearted and gentle nudge of ridiculousness as a reminder that not all anger is necessary.
